Thein Sein – Former President of Myanmar

General (Bogyoke) Aung San – He brought independence from British colonial rule in Burma (Myanmar). He is the father of (hero of) Myanmar People.

U Thant – He is the third Secretary-General of the United Nations. He achieved negotiations between John F. Kennedy and Nikita Kruschev during Cuban Missile Crisis.

Aung San Su Kyi – Aung San Su Kyi – She is State Counsellor of Myanmar & Minister of Foreign Affairs Ministry. She is daughter of General Aung San. Presently she is Leader of National League for Democracy. She got Nobel Peace Prize in 1991.

It is situated on the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.Β  The neighbor countries are China, India, Laos, Thailand and Bangladesh. The length of land boundaries is 5876km. Myanmar is second largest while Indonesia is first in South East Asia.

The area is 676,578 km2. The land area is 653,508 km2. The water area is 23,070 km2.

Popular Rivers

The main river is Ayeyarwady. It flows from North to South through country. It is very useful for commerce. The other rivers are Chidwin, Thanlwin, Sittaung.

Largest Cities

Naypidaw is the Capital and it is the city of government offices. Yangon is largest City and Old Capital. Mandalay is Second Largest City.

The country is composed with 7 Divisions and 7 States.
Divisions are Yangon, Mandalay, Magway, Sagaing, Ayeyarwady, Tanintharyi and Bago.
States are Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Rakhine, Mon and Shan.

Buddhish (89%) ,Christian,Muslim,Hindu.

Burmese (officially), English and other local languages.

There are 135 national races. The main races are Kachin(12), Kayah(9), Kayin(11), Chin(53), Mon(1), Bamar(9), Rakhine(7) and Shan(33). The population is 54,584,650. (July 2012 estimated)

Independence

Myanmar became independence from British Colonies on 4, January, 1948.

Myanmar Flag

The nation flag was adopted on 21 Oct 2010. It is a horizontal tricolor flag of yellow, green and red charged with a five-pointed white star in the middle of the field. The yellow represents peace; the green symbolizes solidarity, tranquility and lush greenery; the red represents courage and determination; and the white star stands for the significance of the union of the country.

Agriculture

As it has a lot of rivers and there is a lot of rain, the nation is Agriculture country. The main product is rice and the rest are pulses, beans, sesame, groundnuts, sugarcane, fish and fish products, hardwood.

Natural Resources

Myanmar has rich of natural resources like petroleum, timber, tin, antimony, zinc, cement, construction materials, pharmaceuticals, fertilizer, oil and gas, garments, jade, gems, copper, tungsten, lead, coal, some marble, limestone, precious stones, natural gas, and hydro power.

Education

Anybody can go to school at the age of 5. Elementary School (Kindergarten, Standard 1,2,3,4);Middle School (Standard 5,6,7,8);High School (Standard 9,10). The uniform is white on the top and green at bottom. Schools open in beginning of June.
Depends on the matriculation results (Standard 10), the students may go different universities. There are universities of Medical, Technical, and other vocational.

Health

The most common diseases are bacterial and protozoal diarrhea; hepatitis A, B; Tricuspid Valve (TV); typhoid fever; dengue fever and malaria; leptospirosis; rabies; HIV; AIDS.
