It was built in AD 1896 by the British Captain May. Unlike Mandalay, it is a scenic hill town. It is formely called as Maymyo. It is also famous as flowers town. It takes only two hour drive from Mandalay.

It is located in the Shan Highland, and on the main road of Mandalay-Lashio Highway.
